paintings and photography
I was born and raised in a communist country. There, obstacles were many and opportunities few. I never fit in, and feeling different gave me an unique perspective. Perhaps that sense that I was not like others made me turn inward, and I created a world of beauty where I saw inspiration, hope, and had some control against the restrictions around me. I’m most inspired by people; their physical being, their individual esthetic. Everyone struggles with being imperfect, instead, seeking a way to be like everyone else in order to find acceptance. But there is no perfection; there is simply beauty which comes from all the ways in which we’re different. It is a person’s individuality and flow that makes them interesting, dynamic, and beautiful in their own way. I paint what I perceive emanates from a person’s inner being, expressed on canvas through their appearance in portraiture. Photography also allows me to unleash my creativity. In surrealistic style, I can find endless possibilities to create imaginary realities. I tell stories through the use of color, texture, symbolism to evoke emotion in the viewer. I found a sense of freedom In my art. It is where I can best express my feelings and thoughts in a creative way. As I show my paintings and photography with an audience, I receive responses that help me to feel I am not alone and that my unique vision is valued; that there are others who share and appreciate my expression from within.
